Odion Ighalo is set to stay at Manchester United for another seven months with a deal to extend his loan spell from Shanghai Shenhua edging closer.
The 30-year-old’s original four-month loan deal was due to expire on Sunday, but the club have been working on a resolution to keep Ighalo at Old Trafford over the past couple of weeks.
Ighalo’s parent club Shanghai Shenhua were keen to have the Nigerian striker back, with the Chinese Super League looking to start their season at the end of June or the start of July. Originally they were only willing to allow him to stay if he was signed on a permanent deal.
Instead they have continued to pursue an extended deal and Shanghai’s stance has eased, with boyhood Ighalo making it clear how desperate he is to stay at the club and finish this Premier League season.
